WESCO Event Attendance
May 13, 2021 2:44 PM

To assist in the adherance to COVID restrictions, WESCO policy only allows spectators for the home team to attend contests during the 2020-2021 schol year. This policy is frequently reevaluated.

To accommodate fans for visiting teams, each school in Wesco is trying to live stream as many home athletic events as possible. Each school will be different depending on the technology infrastructure available at each location.

This document provides the link to the streaming channels for each school.

FOOTBALL- REQUIRED SAFETY TRAINING FOR ALL FOOTBALL COACHES- Head Coach, All Assistants, all Volunteers, and all Middle School Level Coaches.
WIAA RULE 20.4.11 All Middle School and High School football coaches must complete school-district approved technique specific safety training similar to "Heads Up Football". The training must include, but is not limited to, "hands-on" Safer Tackling Techniques and Drills, Helmet and Shoulder Pad fitting, Concussion management with Return to Play Protocols following a concussion, Heat and Hydration training and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training. Football coaches will be required to repeat this training every three years.

To meet this requirement this year:

FOOTBALL Coaches who have never received training, or those whose certification has expired, may complete football safety training for 20-21 online, however this online training will only be good through 7/31/21. Hands-on training for safe tackling & blocking must be completed in-person prior to the 21-22 football season beginning. Once hands-on training is complete, it is good for 3 years. Online Football safety training for coaches needing it, can be met by completing the following 4 courses.

1. Blocking & Defeating Blocks, Shoulder Tackling & Equipment Fitting – at nfhslearn.com for $10 LINK: https://nfhslearn.com/courses/blocking-and-defeating-blocks-shoulder-tackling-equipment-fitting
2. Heat Illness Prevention – nfhslearn.com – free LINK https://nfhslearn.com/courses/heat-illness-prevention-2
3. Concussion Management w/return to play protocols – WIAA online rule clinic – free
4. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Training – WIAA online rule clinic – free

Coaches could come together and document the viewing of these trainings if that is acceptable to your District. If it is acceptable, work out a plan for documenting the training with some sort of roll sheet.

SWIM – Each team must have a certified swim coach on site during practice and competition in order for athletes to be eligible to participate in swimming (divers must have a certified dive coach on site). Swim coaches can earn certification by completing Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches or obtaining Lifeguard Certification. Certification is good for 2 years. Courses can be found at redcross.org

1. Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches - $25

2. Lifeguard Certification - $120

3. Check local pools for lifeguard certification training

POLE VAULT – Every team must have a certified pole vault coach on site during practice and competition in order for athletes to be eligible to participate in pole vault. If a district has a district PV coach, each school must have one of their coaches certified as well for away meets. First time certification must be hands-on. Due to Covid, new coaches can receive their first time training online, however this initial online training will only be good through 7/31/21. “Hands-on” training must take place prior to 21-22 track season. Coaches who have already received Hands-on training, can renew online and it is good for three years.

1. Coaching Pole Vault Course – nfhslearn.com - free

CH/DA Stunt Certification – Required of all cheer and dance/drill programs who intend to have their squads perform stunts. New coaches who have never been certified can complete their initial training online for this spring only, however this initial online training will only be good through 7/31/21 at which time “hands-on” training must take place. Coaches who have received initial hands-on training, can renew with a WIAA approved online course, which will be good for three years.

1. Cheer and Dance Safety Certification – nfhslearn.com - $85, even though it has Dance in the course title, this course has only been approved by the cheer association & WIAA for cheer coaches.

2. Online Dance Certification is available through their association (NDCA) – www.nationaldancecoaches.org - $50 to become a member and $50 for the online course

**Since a season has not even been established for competitive cheer and dance, and stunting is not allowed until that happens, it may be best for new coaches to wait until this summer for in-person training, rather than spending this money for an online course that may or may not be good for anything this year.
